چکیده

Over the past decade, wireless sensor networks have advanced in terms of hardware design, communication protocols, and resource efficiency. Recently, there has been growing interest in mobility, and several small-profile sensing devices that control their own movement have been developed. Unfortunately, resource constraints inhibit the use of traditional navigation methods because these typically require bulky, expensive sensors, substantial memory, and a generous power supply. Therefore, alternative navigation techniques are required. In this paper, we present a navigation system implemented entirely on resource-constrained sensors. Localization is realized using triangulation in conjunction with radio interferometric angle-of-arrival estimation. A digital compass is employed to keep the mobile node on the desired trajectory. We also present a variation of the approach that uses a Kalman filter to estimate heading without using the compass. We demonstrate that a resource-constrained mobile sensor can accurately perform waypoint navigation with an average position error of 0.95m.

On the Feasibility of Determining Angular Separation in Mobile Wireless Sensor Networks

Mobile sensors require periodic position measurements for navigation around the sensing region. Such information is often obtained using GPS or onboard sensors such as optical encoders. However, GPS is not reliable in all environments, and odometry accrues error over time. Although several localization techniques exist for wireless sensor networks, they are typically time consuming, resource in...

Monte Carlo localization of wireless sensor networks with a single mobile beacon

One of the most important tasks in sensor networks is to determine the physical location of sensory nodes as they may not all be equipped with GPS receivers. In this paper we propose a localization method for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) using a single mobile beacon. The sensor locations are maintained as probability distributions that are sequentially updated using Monte Carlo sampling as t...

A Combined Batteryless Radio and WiFi Indoor Positioning for Hospital Nursing

This paper proposes a design of an efficient hospital nurse calling system which combines two types of indoor localization systems. The purpose of the first system is to locate patients while the second is to locate nurses equipped with their smart phones. The main goal of developing such system is to decrease the time taking for nurses to provide healthcare for patients. Patients' positioning ...
